Jerry
D. Vandel, M.D.
Jerry Vandel, M.D. is a native of Houston, and has lived in Austin since
1985. He is a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston,
and did internship and residency training at Harlem Hospital in New York
City. He also spent two years in the Indian Health Service, serving as
Clinical Director at the Indian Health Service hospital in Crownpoint,
New Mexico, providing care to members of the Navajo Nation.
After moving to Austin, Dr. Vandel worked for two years doing preventive
and fitness medicine before starting into private practice. In 1987, he
took over the internal Medicine practice of Dr. Jerome Ravel, who was retiring.
He has continued to practice in the Central Austin area, near St. David’s
Hospital, and is now in practice with Steve Booton, M.D. Dr. Vandel has
been on the Medical Executive Committee at St. David’s
Hospital since 1996, and served as President of the Medical Staff in 2000
and 2001. He enjoys all aspects of Internal Medicine, particularly the
areas of lifestyle modification, such as exercise and stress reduction.
Dr. Vandel is married (wife Diana) and they have a son who is a 2002 graduate
of Vassar College. Although the NBA has never come calling, Dr. Vandel
continues to play basketball on Wednesday nights, and also runs on the
Hike and Bike trail several days a week.
